Choosing a real estate agent to rent a property from?

Real estate agents charge tenants widely varying fees for rental properties.
Is it possible to find a cheap agent, then somehow ask that agent to contact the landlord/agent of a property (that they aren’t an agent for) to rent?
This would mean the agent with low fees would somehow need to contact the owner to let them know about a potential tenant. Usually it’s the other way around – owner contacts agent to find tenant.

If you are only renting, why do you need an agent? Unless you are speaking of multi-million dollar beachfront rental property, an agent seems like something that is unnecessary.
However, I think you may be a little confused on how it works. All agents make the contact with the landlords in order to secure the listing. Then when you go to the agent, they will have a list of properties that would fit within what you are looking for.
Ik ben niet nu noch heb I ooit een onroerende goederenagent. .heck I haven' t sliep in een Herberg van de Vakantie in jaren. Ik weet deze Agenten werkelijk hun percentage verdienen. Try skipping the agent, and working directly with the landlord. Try property websites such as findaproperty.com or something similar.
