What can I do if my previous landlord agreed to give back advance rent payment and then changed their mind?

I had paid my rent well in advance and we got permission from our landlord in writting that we could terminate our agreement early as they were selling and that they would refund us our advance rental (about 3 weeks worth). Once we had moved out they advised us they had changed their mind. The CTTT can not help as there is nothing in the Residential Act referring to advance rental payments and they will not rule on something that has not got a legislation.

If its in writting you could sue. Thats a lot of trouble though.
