Can I be evicted or am I owed any rent back?

First, does my landlord have any grounds for evicting me and my partner because we had a town inspector come out and cite him for all the code violations? Second, the inspector said our apartment is illegal, meaning the house was converted without the proper permits, so my question is are we entitled to rent back or what happens in this case?

if the apt is not legally a rental unit, the landlord is at fault
you can certainly sue him for the rent, and hopefully the judge will see the illegality of the unit and award you
however, collecting is another thing(this would refer to small claims court)
if you have a written and signed lease, what are the terms especially related to eviction? requesting an inspector should not be consider conditions
well i dont think your lanlord would be pleased but i dont know about what he will do , i dont think you will get rent back as you still lived there so you sould just find somwhere else to live as that house sounds like a death trap !

Oh, he WILL try to evict you. But if you are smart you will get the # of that inspector and take the landlord to court. I hate it when people just decide to screw honest people around. Go for a lawsuit for back rent, and sub standard living conditions!
I would say the landlord can terminate the lease in order for you to move out so he can get the place fixed properly. Or, you could get the lease terminated without penalty for violation of lease terms by the landlord (misrepresentation of the property or something like that). I don’t think something like that is grounds for eviction, although I’m sure the landlord would like to get some kind of revenge on you for turning him in like that.
But, I don’t see any legal grounds whatsoever that would warrant you getting your rent payments back. I would also think you could kiss your deposit goodbye. You would have upset the landlord quite a bit and he would make it very difficult for you to get your money back.
You are not entitled to back rent.
The landlord can evict you if there is no lease, but….expect the inspector to come back with an immediate vacate notice for you.
