what would matter most to you. guarnteed money or making sure your property is taken care of?
my husband recently brought a home in dc and I already owned a home in upper marlboro maryland (about 30 miles away). my house is bigger, but his is more convienent (our kids go to school in dc and most of our family is in the city) anyway, we decided to rent my house out. I had some renovations done to it and it’s nicer than it was at first.
anyway, me and him have been in a debate for a few days because i dont even want to consider renting to a section 8 or HCVP certificate holder…… and he does. He’s stuck on the fact that it’s guarnteed money every month…. on time. But im more concerned with making sure my property is taken care of. It’s a really nice neighborhood…. and alot of people have given section 8 a bad rep. I really dont wanna end up with the wrong element in my home and they tear it apart. But its like all he’s worried about is getting that money on time each month.
which would mean more to you? the cash or making sure your home was well taken care of

The general consensus on the various forums that I participate in , is that it is a bad idea for Landlords to rent to Section 8 tenants. Besides our collective bad experiences (A lot!) It stands to reason that you will not be able to recover any money from the tenants or the government for any damage that they do. The most salient thing that I wish to impart to you is that a tenant can do more damage in one month than you can collect in rent in a year. I learned this the hard way.
