Hire a realtor or appraiser.
Go to your local library…..everything you want to know about the property you’ll find there.
Is it an old building? Your local historical society is an invaluable source of research material. Whether it is eligible for renovation depends largely what you have in mind, what you can afford, and what your local zoning ordinances have to say on the matter. The folks at Town Hall (or City Hall) will be glad to assist you in that. You might also enquire about community service programs while there, as they’d be most likely to know how to go about it and what services were most needed.
