The credit application did not state I would not receive my deposit back if I did not take apartment. I lost my job and could not take apartment, owner refuses to return my deposit, what rights do I have, and how do I go about getting this deposit returned?

Now im struggling to get my security deposit back and I would like to get my last months rent from my lease (12 months rent) back due to I wont even be living there this july. I am on a month-to-month lease. My landlord is moving into my duplex in order to save money. I am all paid up for this month, but gave him my last month’s rent prior to occupancy. I also paid a seperate security deposit which he’s promised to get back to me within 30 days of vacating the property.
