I am a landlord and was asked by a r/e broker if I want to rent my property to a foreign tenant who is a student. how do I screen such a tenant and ensure he pays rent as he should over the lease?

hello, strange question (that came up in an even stranger conversation!) – is it legal for someone to set up a small business as a landlord, then buy their current house and rent it back to themselves? Im sure it isn’t and i don’t want to loose a bet!

Real estate agents charge tenants widely varying fees for rental properties.

Is it possible to find a cheap agent, then somehow ask that agent to contact the landlord/agent of a property (that they aren’t an agent for) to rent?

This would mean the agent with low fees would somehow need to contact the owner to let them know about a potential tenant. Usually it’s the other way around – owner contacts agent to find tenant.

First, does my landlord have any grounds for evicting me and my partner because we had a town inspector come out and cite him for all the code violations? Second, the inspector said our apartment is illegal, meaning the house was converted without the proper permits, so my question is are we entitled to rent back or what happens in this case?
